Kim Mama's Bento Box: Reviews & Ratings
I found this place after going into Moe's and moes was disgusting and smelled bad. So I wondered down to a new small Korean food place. We went in and was greeted immediately. The place was clean, smelled good and welcoming. They had us seat ourselves and the waitress was immediately there giving us the menu. The selection of drinks are coke products, they give you a bottle and cup of ice. We ordered the pan fried Pork gyoza (dumplings). They gave us free cup of miso soup. I do not usually like miso, but it was amazingly flavored. I ate all of mine, it was very fresh tasting and very enjoyable. The dumplings were slightly fried, I would have preferred them fried a bit more, but they were really good. The sauce that came with it is a bit sweet but pairs very well. We ordered the beef bimibop, it was also fresh and so flavorful. They brought us a complimentary kimchi. Everything was made from scratch and very very good. I absolutely recommend this place. Recommendation: Soy sauce for table Pepper flakes for table
The folks here are kind and amazing cooks! I was in town for a few days and went twice with my boyfriend who started to love the restaurant. I’ve had the katsu pasta, katsu sandwich, fruit sandwich, bento box, and a few appetizers.
Have been looking for something that is somewhat authentic since moving to the area. We were just so pleased to find this place. When the Takoyaki came out covered in quivering bonito flakes we knew we found a good spot! I had the unagi donburi, husband had the large bento with beef bulgogi and pork katsu. Pork was a little over done but still tasty! The potato salad is exactly as I remembered from my last trip east!
We went here for our lunch break. It was a clean, quiet little spot. Erica was so sweet and tender to our needs. Also the chef who may be the owner greeted us politely and made sure my order was accurate since it is a new menu item. The food was very delicious! It tasted like home cooked Korean food! We will definitely be back!
Got to try this new Korean/Japanese style restaurant in Newport News. I tried the JapChae noodles which were Fire. Strawberry Sando on milk bread which was so fresh tasting. Pan seared Gyoza which was not an hot as I had hoped but was still tasty. Also tried the Egg Salad Sando which was a mix of potato salad and chopped egg on toasted bread. I was not a fan of this. It seemed really dry. Tried the Omu Don which is pictured down . Presentation was on point how ever once I tried this dish I found it to be lacking in flavor. The rice had no seasoning, the pork bulgogi was very flavorful though there was little of it unfortunately, and the egg was tasty just wasn't what I was expecting. Overall I'm glad I got to try this location and give them a try. They have some things to work on when it comes to certain things but it's doable. BTW... It is a bit on the pricy side for 3 of us it was $82 before tip.
My dining experience at Kim Mama was amazing! My kids loved pan seared dumplings and chicken nuggets! Bibimbop was so savory and tasty. Chicken Kastu bento box was so good too! It was very clean and kids friendly. We will definitely go back there for sure!
First time here and so glad we decided to try it! Said they opened 3 months ago and we were impressed with how clean, delicious and nutritious it was! Husband got the beef and pork bulgogi bento box & I got the chicken katsu bento box! Will definitely be back!
Popped in for lunch today on a whim and we are glad we did! Peaceful, clean environment and attentive, friendly service. Delicious food - we had the pork gyoza, pork katsu sando, pork katsu bento box, and strawberry cream sando to share. We cleaned our plates! Really delicious flavors and all quickly made to order. The katsu was perfectly fried and crispy, but still juicy, and the dumplings really tasted handmade. Will definitely be returning!
